Summary

He lives in a world of winter。

Sled dog musher and outdoor adventurer Nick Dahlquist doesn’t mean to be a loner—he just feels at home in the woods, with his dogs, and also online in his vlogging world, where he’s amassed nearly a million viewers。 But he’s just a simple guy, with simple goals—care for his dogs, teach people how to survive the cold, and run the Iditarod。 Unfortunately, life turns cold when his lead dog is injured, and he’s low on funds。 Good thing he has LadyJHawk to chat with。 She’s become an online friend he can turn to, and he’s starting to need her more than he’d like to admit。 But the last thing he wants is for some random woman to show up on his doorstep…

She doesn’t belong in his world。

Chopper pilot and Texas gal Jae Lynn Washington has been following Nick’s DogQuest videos and Get Lost in the Woods vlogs since she inherited her deceased boyfriend’s military working dog。 Three years later, his encouragement and help as online chat buddies have made her wonder if he could be more than a friend。 What if she moved to Deep Haven? Would that be considered stalking, even if she had a bonafide job on the Crisis Response Team?

But she’s determined to try…

When Jae shows up in Deep Haven—and on Nick’s doorstep—he’s not at all the man she met online。 The last thing she’ll do is tell him she’s really LadyJHawk。 And when Nick is tapped to train the Crisis Response Team, he’s pretty sure that petite, summer-loving Jae won’t last a moment in the brutal cold—a fear he pours out to LadyJHawk。 As their training takes a personal turn, their chilly start begins to thaw。 But is he ready to shake off his online relationship for the one in real life? And if Jae tells him the truth, will it spook him back into the woods?

When a blizzard strikes, and the CRT is called out into the storm, it might be too late…

Cozy up to this delightful, wintery twist on You’ve Got Mail set in the snowy escape of Deep Haven。

What a fun trip to Deep Haven from another author's perspective。 The original Deep Haven series was great, so I was curious how this would be adding to the series by other authors writing with Susan May Warren。 I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the book。 If you like a romance, like holding your breath in times through the book, want some conflict in the book - then this book checks all those points off your list! Well, it’s a bittersweet day。 I’m happy because I get to go back to Deep Haven, but sad because it’s the end of the Sunrise Publishing Season 1, Deep Haven Collection。Book #6, RIGHT HERE WAITING, by Susan May Warren and Michelle Aleckson released today。 I was so happy to see it appear on my e-reader this morning。 I had read an advance copy, but I always like to see the final version too。 Any day I get to spend in Deep Haven is a good day! The fact that in my little corner of Central California, it finally feels like Fall here, with a bit of rain, a bit of wind, and colors in the trees made it a perfect day for curling up with a book set in the freezing temperatures of Minnesota in November was a bonus。CRAZY FOR YOU is different and the same as the other Deep Haven books。It’s the same because it’s in Deep Haven (duh)。 It features believable characters on the Minnesota North Shore of Lake Superior。 There’s a strong thread of romance and faith。It’s different because our heroine, Jae Washington, is Korean-American。 It was nice to get a glimpse of another culture in Deep Haven and how she was welcomed。 We also learned about Korean food。 I confess, I’m not a fan of kimchee, but I love Korean fried chicken。I also love the movie, You’ve Got Mail, and RIGHT HERE WAITING gives a strong wink and a nod to Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox。We met Nick Dahlquist in CRAZY FOR YOU, because he’s Peter’s cousin, that book’s hero。 Now Nick gets his own book。Nick is training his sled dog team for an upcoming race, hoping for sponsors。 He needs new sponsors or he might lose not just his dogs, but his home and business。Jae accepts a job with the new Deep Haven Crisis Response Team as the new helicopter pilot。 She knows Nick from his vlog, the one that pulled her from a depression。 But he has no idea that Jae is the person he’s been Direct Messaging with。I loved this book for so many reasons。 Nick and Jae felt like real characters and I never questioned their feelings for each other。 I enjoyed the plot and the problems each of them faced and overcame。Susan May Warren is a gifted writing teacher and I follow her principles。 This book could be a text for her Story Equation teaching。 It has all the elements she teaches。 The Dark Moment Story, the Wound, the Lie, the Flaw, the (Wo)Man in the Mirror Moment, etc。I loved this book and I highly recommend it!I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher, but that did not induce me to review it, positively or not。 。。。more

After reading Crazy For You (Book #3 in the Deep Haven Series), I was very excited to read this book。 The Dahlquist family is still busy with their restaurant。 This story features Nick Dahlquist, who doesn’t work in the restaurant business, but loves the outdoor life。 He loves his team of dogs and racing them in dog-sledding。 For the past two years he has been having online chats with a mystery woman。 Little does he know that she’s moved to Deep Haven。She goes to his home to meet him and show hi After reading Crazy For You (Book #3 in the Deep Haven Series), I was very excited to read this book。 The Dahlquist family is still busy with their restaurant。 This story features Nick Dahlquist, who doesn’t work in the restaurant business, but loves the outdoor life。 He loves his team of dogs and racing them in dog-sledding。 For the past two years he has been having online chats with a mystery woman。 Little does he know that she’s moved to Deep Haven。She goes to his home to meet him and show him her dog, but he thinks she’s a bill collector and dismisses her。 Before she can tell him who she is, she’s not so sure she wants to be around him。 But, Nick is worried about losing his home and business。 He’s low on money and race sponsors。The mystery woman is Jae Washington, who has arrived from Texas to take a job of rescue pilot with the Deep Haven team。 She soon is introduced to the bitter cold and going on rescue missions with the entire team, who welcome her with open arms to the charming town。Jae and Nick become close and are falling for each other, but she still hasn’t told Nick that she’s the woman he’s been chatting with online。 When she finally tells him, he feels angry and that she has been laughing at him behind his back。 It’s not until she gets lost in a failed rescue attempt, that Nick forgets his anger and goes on a dangerous mission to save her。 With an entire church youth group and adult team lost in a severe snow storm, will the rescue team arrive in time? Will Nick and Jae ever get together? This Christian Romance is sweet and clean and the characters are flawed, but they let God change them into who He has planned and purposed them to be。I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author。 All views expressed are only my honest opinion。 。。。more

I have truly enjoyed the Deep Haven series thus far, so I was a little surprised that the beginning of Right Here Waiting was lackluster to me, but when Jae and Nick meet for the first time, in the most disastrous way possible, I was hooked。 It is because of this first meeting that I wasn’t too fond of Nick’s character, but he did redeem himself as the novel went on, and I was able to see his heart and motivations。 Jae I instantly adored, though I will say she is stubborn to a fault, and it’s he I have truly enjoyed the Deep Haven series thus far, so I was a little surprised that the beginning of Right Here Waiting was lackluster to me, but when Jae and Nick meet for the first time, in the most disastrous way possible, I was hooked。 It is because of this first meeting that I wasn’t too fond of Nick’s character, but he did redeem himself as the novel went on, and I was able to see his heart and motivations。 Jae I instantly adored, though I will say she is stubborn to a fault, and it’s her stubbornness that really gets her into trouble。Nick and Jae are two flawed individuals who’s eyes are opened to the truth that’s been there all along, but it takes tough times, and rough circumstances for them to see it for themselves。 Sometimes that’s what it takes for all of us, a good, long look in the mirror when life gets tough。Right Here Waiting has a wonderful pace, with the exception of the beginning being a little on the slow side for me, but the middle and ending more than make up for that small detail。 The writing is on point, and the imagery truly puts you into the middle of the action。 Seeing Nick and Jae together is so heartwarming, which is why the main conflict was hard for me to deal with at times。 I wanted nothing but the best for these characters, and truly craved that happy ending!I adore this series so much! The overwhelming love of community, family, and each other in Deep Haven resonates so strongly with me that it makes me want to pack my bags and brave the icy tundra that is Minnesota myself! We need more towns and more people like this in real life! People who would do whatever it takes to help someone in need or to boost someone into realizing a lifelong dream。 So utterly heartwarming and the perfect escape from reality。*I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours。 All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own。 。。。more

t*happy sigh* We’ve come to the end of the Deep Haven series。 I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading these books and meeting all these new characters! These authors have beautifully taken Ms。 Warren’s work and added their own spin on it。 I am so happy Nick finally got his own book! And I loved that a little bit more diversity was added to this series too :)tNick Dalquist’s life has fallen apart。 Not only does he have to watch the love of his life fall in love with another man, he also is in danger of losing his entire business。 The only person he can open to is LadyJHawk, an online friend that he’s chatted with for years。 Jae owes Nick Dalquist her life。 He’s the one who inspired her to start living again, but he only knows her as LadyJHawk。 When she gets the opportunity to move to Deep Haven, she jumps at the chance。 It’s not just a desire to meet Nick though Jae longs for a real community, one where she would finally fit in。 But will Jae and Nick have the courage to step out of an online relationship and into a real one?tI loved how Ms。 Aleckson handled Nick’s character! To be honest I totally thought he was going to end up with Vivian, but once I met Jae, I realized they made so much more sense together。 Nick had never really opened up to Vivian。 He put up a front for her instead of showing her who he really was。 On the other hand, he showed Jae everything whether by telling her or LadyJHawk。 He did have to learn to take risks though in the real world and believe that love was worth the risk of trying and failing。tI loved Jae’s character! I am a bit biased because I’m so happy that an Asian American character was added, but I also just love her! As you can probably tell by all the exclamation points :) I loved how strong she was even though she was struggling with a lot of different things。 Jae was searching for her community, but she had to learn that if she wanted a community, she had to let people in。tThis was a super satisfying end to a wonderful series! Everyone is happily paired off, and we are once again saying goodbye to Deep Haven。 Fingers crossed that we get another series though! I would personally love to see any of the main character’s kids。 This is a clean, Christian romance that I would totally recommend to anyone who wants the small town feel!I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author。 All views expressed are only my honest opinion。 。。。more

It was so lovely to return to Deep Haven。 This is the final book in this Deep Haven collection, but hope it won't be my last visit to this lovable town。 Even though this is a collection/series, and the characters we've met throughout the series makes appearances, you can read this as a stand-alone。 But I will recommend reading the whole series (and in order - but I'm OCD with reading series in order。)Nick was one of those characters where everyone can see how great a person he is, except for him It was so lovely to return to Deep Haven。 This is the final book in this Deep Haven collection, but hope it won't be my last visit to this lovable town。 Even though this is a collection/series, and the characters we've met throughout the series makes appearances, you can read this as a stand-alone。 But I will recommend reading the whole series (and in order - but I'm OCD with reading series in order。)Nick was one of those characters where everyone can see how great a person he is, except for him。 He has such a big heart, and who can not help and love a hero who has a soft spot for dogs! Love love! Michelle did a beautiful job of wrapping up Susan May Warren’s revamp of Deep Haven。 Return to Deep Haven for one last time with Jae Washington who is searching for a place to call home and Nick Dalhquist who just needs the weather to turn in his favor。 But they both have to learn to truly trust God and each other。 Which they learn is easier said than done。

I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to get enough visiting Deep Haven and all of the old & new characters who show up on the scene。 What I need is for the creator of Deep Haven to create a family tree that includes not only the family, but ex girlfriends & boyfriends as well as friends and other large families like the Dahlquists。In Vivian's story we all could tell how much Nick liked her, but she just wasn't that into him。 Now he got his own story。 If you like a story where characters feel like I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to get enough visiting Deep Haven and all of the old & new characters who show up on the scene。 What I need is for the creator of Deep Haven to create a family tree that includes not only the family, but ex girlfriends & boyfriends as well as friends and other large families like the Dahlquists。In Vivian's story we all could tell how much Nick liked her, but she just wasn't that into him。 Now he got his own story。 If you like a story where characters feel like they have to constantly prove themselves to others, but end up seeing they never needed to, then this would be a great story for you。Nick feels like the town joke, and it's easy to see why。 He didn't go into the family business and how many people dream of sled dog racing? Then there's Jae。 She's new to town, has a mixed heritage, and is pretty much on the petite size。 She's definitely out to prove herself。 A history with her extended family has shown that this needs to be done。 One would think these two are on a collision course!I enjoyed the flow of the story and how all of the pieces came together。 While it stuck to the CRT crew, because Jae is their new chopper pilot, I loved how Nick's dog sledding was woven in。 It doesn't seem like it would make sense, but it fit perfectly from beginning to end。 I always say that if you want a sense of what it's like to live in MN, you need to read the books in the Deep Haven Collection。 The authors all grasp it fully! I'll be adding a quote so you'll see what I mean。 Be sure to check that out!*I received this book for review。 This is my personal opinion。 。。。more

3。5 starsIn some ways, Jae was a contradiction。 She moved from Texas to Deep Haven without any encouragement from Nick thinking they could have a physical relationship but she doesn't want to open up。 She joins the Crisis Response Team because she wants to help but she doesn't want to accept help from anyone。。。 In a lot of ways, I understood where she was coming from but her determination to be independent was off-putting and in at least two cases, dangerous。 Nick was also somewhat contradictory 3。5 starsIn some ways, Jae was a contradiction。 She moved from Texas to Deep Haven without any encouragement from Nick thinking they could have a physical relationship but she doesn't want to open up。 She joins the Crisis Response Team because she wants to help but she doesn't want to accept help from anyone。。。 In a lot of ways, I understood where she was coming from but her determination to be independent was off-putting and in at least two cases, dangerous。 Nick was also somewhat contradictory。 He was about to go broke but did not want to use the skills he'd acquired, outside of mushing or breeding puppies, to finance his life。 I understand that he just wanted to share his love with the outdoor with others but I felt that he could have used someone to give him some good business advice since that wasn't his strength。 Nick and Jae's online relationship was sweet and I would have liked to see more of that on the page without the big secret hanging over them。 Towards the end, both Nick and Jae will fond new depths in themselves and you see a glimmer of what they'll become if they can remain free of the lies that had kept them entangled for much of the book。 A major theme in Right Here Waiting was finding a place to belong。 Jae was searching for a home and a family since she felt out of place among her extended family。 Readers will be reminded that home isn't some elusive thing or place, rather, home is found wherever you choose to make it。 I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through Just Read Tours; a positive review was not required。 。。。more
